The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

As any major awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of fans with niche passions.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an essential concession within the realm of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types effectively encompass many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the hard edge of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
